I think that fear of the Lord is misunderstood by any because some consider this from the perspective that, are they to love God because they must fear him when in actuality God is our rescuer from certain death. We need to fear that we do not accept the free gift of God of Salvation that no one can earn.

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

The fear of God should be our rejection of the only One who saves.
